THE IDEA
A cultural passage, open to the city.
Opposite Colegio de las Vizcaínas, a cultural center connects two urban fronts through courtyards and passages. The project explores how to continue a historical language and open it to the public life of the park and city.

01Continuing a historical conversation.
Opposite Colegio de las Vizcaínas, the proposal explores how a contemporary building can engage with a historical language. An analysis of roofs, independent rooms, arcades and courtyards provides the starting point for organizing the cultural center.
02Connecting two urban fronts.
Courtyards and passages cross the complex, linking streets with different activities. The architecture is proposed as a permeable filter toward the city and an open setting for musical activity in the park.
03The section tells the journey.
Stepped volumes, vertical circulation and open spaces are studied through plans, a longitudinal section and physical models. The 2017 academic project was developed by Francisco Serrano Hess and Fernanda Montiel, with tutors Héctor Delmar and José Antonio Rage.
